Stop by the prominent sacred place of worship of the Jains, the famous Hathee Singh Jain Temple. This classic piece of architecture dates back to the 19th century when a prosperous trader, Sheth Hathisingh Kesarisinh started to build this amazing temple. Unfortunately he died at the age of 49 and it was his wife Shethani Harkunwar who completed the elegant temple in 1850 AD at a cost of 8 lakh rupees.
An auspicious temple that enshrines the 15th Tirthankar, Dharmanath is a double storied building made of white marble. Premchand Salat is the architect of this classical temple that houses 52 shrines. Admire the magnificent dome of the temple that stands with the support of twelve ornate pillars.
Adorned with striking carvings the temple houses 11 deities where in six of them are set in the bay structures while the rest appears in the basement. A remarkable element of the sacred complex is the Mahavira Stambh built in similar lines to the stambha in Chittor Rajasthan.

Ahmedabad had been a renowned trading centre of the textile industry from the 15th century, as such the eminent Tamil philosopher Ananda Coomaraswamy suggested Gautam Sarabhai, of Calico Mills to set up a textile museum in the city. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated the museum in 1949 which was later handed over to the Sarabhai Foundation in 1982 by the Calico Mills due to financial crisis.
Well managed and maintained by the Sarabhai foundation the museum has two sections one is the Haveli while the other is named as the Chauk. Haveli holdings include religious textiles, south Indian bronzes, Jaina art and miniature paintings.
Chauk exhibits spectacular collection of royal tents, carpets, furnishings and the costumes of the Mughal and the regional courts, textiles for India’s export trade as well as a wide range of regional ethnographic textiles.
Explore the history of textiles from the past five centuries. As you navigate through the museum with floor made of cow dung and mud, you can notice the hand painted bed sheets, different forms of embroidery that includes cross stitch and chain stitch. A key item among the exhibits includes the double-ikat cloth whose 100000 threads were individually dyed before weaving.
4. Sabarmati Ashram
