The Name of the place carries significance as Banke stands for ‘bent at three places’ and Bihari stands for ‘ supreme enjoyer’. This is witnessed in the idol of Krishna established in Tribhanga posture; bent at hand, bent at waist and bent at leg.

This Particular idol embodies sense of liberation and joyousness infusing the same into devotees. Originally, he was worshipped as ‘Kunj Bihari’ i.e. enjoyer of lakes. You can see a reversal of equation in worshipping of deity as the apotheosized Lord Krishna is humanized and treated with much reverence.

This Temple is cloaked in enigma of existence of Krishna, you will observe the absence of conches and bells as they pujaris believe that Lord isn’t fond of loud sound. Sewa is performed in three parts; shringar, rajbhog and shayan.

This Temple is the nexus of folklore revolving around Krishna’s birth as this built around the prison cell where he is said to be born.
