The Rumtek Monastery is one of the biggest and most important sites of Buddhist pilgrimage in Sikkim and will be the first spot on our one day Gangtok local sightseeing tour. This beautiful monastery is located 23 KM away from Gangtok atop a hill.

Initially called the Dharma Chakra Centre, the monastery belongs to the Kagyu sect of Buddhism. The monastery sits in the lap of lush green mountains and is also an excellent place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. From the compound of Rumtek Monastery, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the town of Gangtok. Apart from this, the architecture of the monastery is also worth taking note of.

The Rumtek Monastery is also a beautiful shrine and a resident of the monks, which were set up with the aim of propagating Buddhist teachings all over the globe. The monastery treats monks, pilgrims, and visitors equally and all are welcome to participate in the prayers and rituals that take place here.

The monastery has preserved a golden stupa, beautiful sculptures and personal belongings of the 16th Karmapa. Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a unique institution that has preserved centuries-old Tibetan and Buddhist culture and history, making it perfect for the history enthusiasts on the same day Gangtok private tour.

Saramsa Garden, also known as Ipecac Garden, is a must visit tourist attraction on the one day Gangtok sightseeing tour, located at a distance of only 14 KM from Gangtok. Saramsa Garden was established in 1922 by the Forest Department of Sikkim. The garden was built in honor of the Namgyal royal family. Before 1940, it also doubled up as an orchard of orange, pineapple, guava, and banana trees.

The Saramsa Garden has been divided into blocks for easy navigation. In one block, there is a small pool with a footbridge and different shaped plants. The second block has benches built under the shade of the trees, for visitors to relax.

The variety of different colored flowers, lush greenery, and the quiet atmosphere of the garden will make you feel at one with nature. There is a greenhouse inside the garden that preserves numerous species of orchids. You can also enjoy a game of volleyball and football inside the garden. There is a convention center and a nursery where functions are held all around the year.


5. Tashi View Point
