Duke’s Nose is a popular tourist attraction located at a distance of about 7 KM from Lonavala and is the very first place on the one day Lonavala private tour. The peculiar name of the attraction was derived from the Duke of Wellington, whose nose is said to resemble the shape of the cliff!

Duke’s Nose is also known as Nagphani and the Cobra’s Hood, owing to the shape of the cliff. Tourists visit this spot for trekking, bird watching and enjoying panoramic views of the magnificent Sahyadri Ranges. The splendid valleys are covered with dense forests. Locals and visitors can also be seen picnicking here.

Next on the Lonavala Sightseeing Tour, we will be visiting Ghangad Fort. Situated on the western side of the Mulshi river in Pune District, this region is also known as Korbarase Maval. The fort in itself is very small but is still worth a visit. From here, you may also visit nearby forts of Korigad, Telbaila and Sudhagad.

The entrance of the Ghangad fort is guarded by two huge rocks. The fort stands at a height of 2500 feet and Ekole village is located at the base of the fort. The fort was occupied by Koli Samant and was later annexed by Adil Shah. The last clan to have a stronghold on the fort were the Marathas.

Tailbaila is a small Village in Mulshi district. The village is quiet and not visited by tourists frequently. If you like peace and quiet, then you will love the ambience of this village.


3. Koraigad

Koraigad Fort is located a short distance away from the southern tip of Lonavala town in Maval region, and it can be easily reached by our private cab. Tourists visit the fort to enjoy great views of the Deccan Plateau and the Konkan region. In this region you might also be able to spot barking deers, boars and peacocks. There is also a fresh water tank near the fort, which is a good place for photography.

To the south of the fort is a temple dedicated to Koradi Devi. To the south is also the well-fortified Ambavane gateway. Koraigad also has two lakes and a hill over which groups of vultures hover. From the Mulshi Lake you can enjoy grand views of the Bhamburda mountain and the Durga hill. There are some caves and an idol of Vishnu in the western part of the fort. From the northern edge of the fort, you will be able to see a panoramic view of the Konkan area.


4. Karla Caves

Karla Caves are one of the oldest Buddhist shrines in India. These caves are located on the Pune-Mumbai highway at Karla. It is said that these caves are only a few among hundreds of other unearthed ones in the Sahyadri region. The carvings on the caves are almost 2000 years old and are believed to have been done between 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD.

Within the cave you will also find a mesmerising collection of Chaityas and Viharas that narrate the journey of our lives and teachings of the Buddha. A temple made only of pillars dating back to the Buddhist period is the main attraction of Karla Caves.

The caves primarily belonged to the Mahasamghika sect of Buddhism. The caves also house a massive 15 meter pillar temple dedicated to Goddess Ekveera. A guide will also help you recognize a trade route near the caves joining the Arabian Sea and the Deccan region.

Owing to its immense historical significance, the cave complex is protected and looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India and this is definitely a memorable spot on the one day Lonavala local sightseeing tour.


5. Lion’s Point

You will be able to spot a number of small waterfalls, lush green hills and lakes surrounding the hill. The sunrise and sunset views from Lion’s Point are also a must see. 6. Celebrity Wax Museum
