The Wild animal territory of Nagarahole National Park also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is located at the foothills of Brahmagiri hills between the Mysore plateau and the Nilgiri Mountains.
The Paradise of natural wonders invites you to explore 640 sq kms of undulating terrain to meet the rare and endangered species of animals. The park receives its name from the river Nagarahole, wherein naga means serpent and hole means stream.
The Kabini River separates the park from the well known Bandipur National Park. It is believed that the park had once been the hunting reserve of the Wadiyar dynasty and Mysore Kings.
The Royal Kings had even tried training the elephants for domestic use. It 1999 the park has been declared as the 37th tiger reserve in Project Tiger and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
